Cutting Out-Piercing Workshop
July 19, 2025
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Cutting Out: Creating Pattern Through Clay
Explore how to turn the patterns and shadows that inspire you—like quilt motifs or city streetlight shapes—into dynamic cutout designs on your pottery. In this workshop with Kollin Baker, you’ll dive into 30 years of hands-on experience with clay and learn to develop your own visual language through cut patterns. Topics include choosing the

right clay body, understanding surface treatments inside and out, and experimenting with slips, glazes, and colored clay.
Participants will be piercing 1-2 bowl forms from either earthenware or B-Mix to experiment with the techniques that Kollin will be demonstrating and teaching. The workshop is suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced potters, looking to expand their decorative skills and bring their ceramic vision to life. Artists can opt to bisque and glaze at Art Off Center or take their creations home to fire.
Kollin will bring finished work to demonstrate techniques and spark ideas, helping you make confident, creative decisions in your own work.
