Art Off Center is throwing down (literally) for the Taylor Studio Tour weekend! Come tour our working ceramic studio, shop handmade pottery, check out our Studio Members Exhibition—and witness clay glory unfold in real time.

All weekend long you’ll find:

🛍 Pottery Sale – Functional ware, sculptural pieces, gifts, and work you didn’t know you needed until you see it.
🎨 Studio Members Exhibition – A special showcase highlighting the range and creativity of our Art Off Center members.
🏆 Live Pottery Contests – Fast, fun, and slightly competitive clay challenges happening both days!

And yes… winners receive a one-of-a-kind Robot Trophy handmade by studio owner Melanie Shaw. These are not normal trophies. These are tiny ceramic robot legends. Bragging rights included. 🤖✨

 

🗓 Saturday, March 28 – Throwing Showdowns

1:00 PM – Best 2 lb Vase Pulled in 3 Minutes
Speed meets elegance as potters race to create the tallest and most beautifully pulled vase possible in just three minutes.

3:00 PM – Blindfolded Throwing (2 lbs in 5 Minutes)
No peeking! Potters rely purely on touch and muscle memory to throw a form while blindfolded. Expect suspense—and maybe a few wobbles.

These contests are voted on by the audience! So come out and vote for your fave piece!

🗓 Sunday, March 29 – Handle & Bowl Battles

1:00 PM – Longest Handle Pulled (1.5 lbs in 3 Minutes)
Watch as competitors attempt to pull the longest continuous handle from 1.5 pounds of clay in just three minutes. Length, strength, and clean pulls are key!

3:00 PM – Widest 2 lb Bowl (3″ Base in 5 Minutes)
The challenge: start with a 3-inch base and create the widest bowl possible using only 2 pounds of clay in five minutes. It’s a thrilling balance of control, stretch, and structural integrity.

These contests are measured by the AOC staff, be prepared to make your best object!
